I don’t know about you, but in my life I’ve surely been “crushed in spirit”. Do you know what I’m talking about?
That time you got news that was like a sucker punch in the gut. I think it’s fair to say we’ve all experienced that at one time or another.
When it’s happened for me, I’ve wanted to go back in time. Backwards, just a bit, to when I didn’t know whatever it is that I know now that is difficult to know. You know?
But going backwards doesn’t change what I know. I’m just ignorant to it, whatever “it” is. Bad news will have that effect. That’s why it hurts like it does. Bad news has a way of entering into your “now life” and disrupting the peace you had before the bad news came. It is difficult to handle. Psalm 18:14 shows us that the Lord knows exactly how we feel.
God’s word also tells me in Psalm 34, that the Lord hears me.
4 I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.
He freed me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy;
no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
6 In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened;
he saved me from all my troubles.
7 For the angel of the Lord is a guard;
he surrounds and defends all who fear him.
- He delivers me
- He’s close to me
- He protects me
- He rescues me.
I encourage you to read and highlight Psalm 34 today. Highlight the promises.
He is close to me when I’m brokenhearted. I do not need to bear the burden alone. In fact, He is anxiously waiting to hold my hand, to carry me, and to guide me through my circumstances.
When I cry out to Him, He hears me.
And He comes closer. That is exactly what I need when I’m hurting, sad, and a little bit broken.
